Ethics Policies

Revista Boliviana de Educación (REBE) seeks to ensure that the editorial board, external reviewers, and authors adhere to generally accepted international ethical standards in scientific publishing, explicitly adopting the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). The manuscript evaluation protocol includes originality analysis (using computerized plagiarism detection systems), double-blind peer review, data integrity auditing, and observance of confidentiality and anonymization principles for study subjects. Furthermore, the editorial team will not publish research that violates international bioethics, animal welfare, or environmental protection regulations, requiring Ethical approval from an Ethics Committee.

Authorship and Contributorship Policy

Authors are individuals who have made a significant contribution to the research and the communication of results, as recognized by the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT). Authors must specify each contributor's role in the Article Submission Letter.

Authors must be listed in their pre-established order and include the following information:

  • Professional name (as it appears in their scientific production; e.g., ORCID name).
  • Email address.
  • Institutional affiliation (including city and country).
  • ORCID iD.

The author who submits the manuscript assumes the role of Corresponding Author and is responsible for managing all communications throughout the editorial process.

Submissions to Revista Boliviana de Educación (REBE) must be original, unpublished, and not currently under review by any other scientific journal. Manuscripts must be submitted with the consent of all authors, who agree to maintain these conditions until a final decision is reached.

Authors commit to providing corrections for errors identified at any stage of the process. Requests for corrections should be emailed to the editor at editor@revistarebe.org.

Reviewer feedback will be sent to authors via the OJS platform. Authors must implement the required corrections as a condition for article acceptance.

 

Plagiarism Policy

Revista Boliviana de Educación (REBE) considers plagiarism unacceptable. All manuscripts submitted for review must comply with the following:

  • Submissions to Revista Boliviana de Educación (REBE) must be original and unpublished, as certified by all authors. Consequently, authors are required to use the provided Article Submission Letter to commit to these criteria. The journal does not publish articles previously published in other languages.
  • All received manuscripts undergo peer review and are processed through plagiarism detection software. Articles that fail to meet originality criteria will be declared inadmissible. If a plagiarized article has already been published, it will be removed from the corresponding volume.

Revista Boliviana de Educación (REBE) is committed to its community and will implement necessary retractions and corrections to ensure transparency and due process in the event of detected or reported errors.

Authors are responsible for all material included in their work—such as tables, graphs, photographs, and figures—and must declare that these do not infringe upon any third-party copyrights.

Authors declare that the manuscript is an original work.

All articles are subject to a rigorous peer review process and plagiarism detection software. This means there must be no instances of full or partial copying or paraphrasing without proper attribution, nor any other form of information mismanagement.

If a manuscript fails to meet originality standards, it will not be published; if such defects are discovered after publication, the article will be retracted.

 

Research Fraud

Revista Boliviana de Educación (REBE) only accepts articles resulting from scientific research. Authors must provide information regarding the study from which the work is derived. During the peer review process, experts evaluate methodology, results presentation, argumentation, and conclusions to ensure the consistency, accuracy, relevance, and contribution of the information.

Authors are advised to keep evidentiary support available, as editors or reviewers may request raw data or other source materials. Any manipulation, falsification, or fabrication of citations and data will result in immediate rejection.

Manuscript Duplication

Revista Boliviana de Educación (REBE) instructions specify that submitted manuscripts must not have been previously published or be currently under review elsewhere. Articles must be original and unpublished; authors commit to these conditions until a final decision is reached.

The plagiarism management policy prohibits the publication of articles that misuse paraphrasing. When an idea is derived from multiple sources, the original text must be quoted and properly attributed.

The journal will not publish articles previously released in any language. Revista Boliviana de Educación (REBE) does not accept this practice.

Non-Acceptance of Research Fragmentation (Salami Slicing)

Revista Boliviana de Educación (REBE) adheres to the highest standards of scientific integrity and does not permit research fragmentation (salami slicing). Authors must present their findings coherently and comprehensively, consolidating all data and results that form a significant, publishable research unit into a single manuscript. The artificial subdivision of a study into multiple small publications, when it could be presented as a single integral article, is unacceptable. We reserve the right to reject manuscripts that show evidence of this practice.

 

Use of Artificial Intelligence

The journal adopts the CRITERIA guidelines for the transparent, ethical, and responsible use of artificial intelligence in scientific publications:

  1. AI cannot be credited as an author.
  2. Accountability rests entirely with the human authors.
  3. All AI use requires critical human oversight.
  4. The manuscript must maintain the author's unique voice and stylistic unity.
  5. Substantial use of AI must be declared with transparency and traceability.
  6. Editors use appropriate tools to detect AI-generated or altered content.

 

Correction and Retraction Policy

Revista Boliviana de Educación (REBE) is responsible for maintaining the integrity and accuracy of published articles. In neuroeducation, data veracity and research transparency are paramount. The journal categorizes corrections and retractions based on the nature of the error or ethical violation:

  1. Erratum: Published when the journal makes a technical or production error during editing or layout (e.g., minor errors in an author's name or a missing value in a table) that does not alter the study’s results or conclusions.
  2. Corrigendum: Issued when authors detect an unintentional error in their own published article (e.g., an error in a formula, a miscited reference, an error in field analysis, or an unattributed quote) that requires rectification to ensure scientific precision without invalidating the main findings.
  3. Retraction (Retractio): The most severe measure, applied when an article has critical flaws that invalidate its conclusions, whether due to major scientific errors or serious ethical misconduct (plagiarism, duplication, data manipulation, or lack of informed consent in educational settings). The original article will remain in the digital archive but will be clearly marked as "Retracted," accompanied by a retraction notice explaining the reasons to the educational community.

Procedure: Any request for correction or retraction will be evaluated by the Editorial Committee. In all cases, the correction notice will be electronically linked to the original article to ensure transparency for readers and researchers.

 

Complaints and Appeals Process

Complaints or appeals should be submitted to the Editor (editor@revistarebe.org). The Editor will confirm receipt via email and evaluate the merits of the claim, informing the Editorial Committee, which will have two weeks to reach a decision. The Editor will determine the appropriate COPE procedure to follow, both in assessing potential misconduct and determining consequences for the article and notifications to affected parties.

The Committee may respond by either dismissing the claim or initiating an investigation, the outcome of which will be communicated to all parties through a formal report.

If an investigation is launched, the Editorial Committee will assign a designated editor, and parties will be asked to provide further evidence or formal statements. Authors will always be given the opportunity to present their rebuttal. A decision will be made based on all gathered evidence and communicated through the Committee’s meeting minutes. This decision may include rejecting the claim, requesting more information, or upholding the complaint.

When an investigation confirms a complaint or allegation, the findings will be shared with the involved parties and the respondent's affiliated institution.

If the complaint or appeal is upheld, the publication will be modified or corrected via a retraction or correction notice in the following issue.

 

Editor-in-Chief’s Decisions and Rulings Policy

At Revista Boliviana de Educación (REBE), the authority of the Editor-in-Chief is final. All rulings and decisions regarding content and editorial direction are considered non-appealable. Once the Editor-in-Chief has issued a final verdict on a manuscript, no further appeals are permitted. Decisions cannot be challenged or reviewed by other bodies, nor are they subject to legal recourse, as they fall under the editorial autonomy and freedom inherent in scientific publishing and internationally accepted academic custom.

 

Conflict of Interest Policy

Revista Boliviana de Educación (REBE) maintains strict criteria to prevent conflicts of interest during the review process.
A Conflict of Interest occurs when a researcher's personal interest in a research activity contravenes the freedom to seek the truth or the interests of the University, resulting in harm to the institution.

Authors must provide an anonymous version of the manuscript that does not allow for the identification of authors, institutions, individuals, or funding sources.

Revista Boliviana de Educación (REBE) ensures that anonymous communication between authors and reviewers adheres to appropriate academic standards for commentary and evaluation. The criteria for manuscript evaluation results are established in the Peer Review Process section.

Data Sharing and Reproducibility Policy

Revista Boliviana de Educación (REBE) promotes transparency, reproducibility, and the independent verification of research results. Therefore, the journal strongly recommends that all research data supporting the article be made accessible as soon as possible, provided it is legal, ethical, and compatible with data protection and participant privacy.

All research papers must include a Data Availability Statement indicating:

  • Whether the data has been deposited in a permanent public repository.
  • The access link and persistent identifier (e.g., DOI).
  • Or that data may be requested under reasonable conditions, describing the procedure for obtaining it.

Revista Boliviana de Educación (REBE) recommends using internationally recognized repositories to ensure transparency and open access. In alignment with this editorial recommendation, datasets and supplementary documents are deposited in Mendeley Data, while methodological materials and additional files are managed through the Open Science Framework (OSF). Review protocols must be pre-registered in PROSPERO to ensure traceability and avoid research duplication. Furthermore, scripts, code, and manuscript versions should be stored in a GitHub repository to allow for version control and study replication.

 

Ethical Oversight Policy

The Editorial Board of Revista Boliviana de Educación (REBE) requires authors to provide information on research ethics standards, which must follow the principles of the Singapore Statement on Research Integrity. The journal adopts COPE guidelines as its primary reference. When applicable, authors must state the ethical procedures followed in their research and, upon request from editors or reviewers, provide relevant information regarding ethical safeguards, particularly concerning informed consent, assent, or authorization for database use.

The use of photographs featuring individuals must have proper authorization and must not cause any harm or injury to the persons depicted.

 

Intellectual Property Policy

All manuscripts published in the journal are the exclusive responsibility of their authors and do not reflect the opinion of the Editorial Board of Revista Boliviana de Educación (REBE).
Authors are responsible for ensuring that the work is original and unpublished.
Revista Boliviana de Educación (REBE) is published under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license. This safeguards the rights of the authors, who grant the journal the property rights for publication.

 

Privacy Policy

Names and email addresses provided to Revista Boliviana de Educación (REBE) will be used exclusively for the journal’s stated purposes and will not be made available to any other person or organization. REBE does not allow advertising or marketing on its website.

In compliance with applicable data protection laws, holders are informed that by voluntarily providing or registering their information through this website, they grant express consent for its inclusion in a database managed by the editorial team. Data will be processed strictly for the journal's goals and objectives.

Data Anonymization and Ethical Compliance: Authors are responsible for ensuring that all presented data has been rigorously anonymized in accordance with current personal data protection regulations. The use of real names or initials is prohibited; generic identifiers must be used instead. If the study includes individual clinical cases or patient images, authors must confirm in the manuscript that prior informed consent was obtained and that all necessary technical measures were taken to prevent subject re-identification, ensuring absolute confidentiality of sensitive information.

Ethical Compliance Statement: Authors must indicate that the study was approved by an IRB/REC and provide the committee's name and the approval protocol number (including a link to the protocol registered in PROSPERO or OSF)
