Virtual platforms have become essential for educational processes, which is strengthened through the use of formative evaluation. This research is qualitative in nature, with a documentary design oriented to a systematic search through the main databases. The databases consulted include ScienceDirect (Scopus), Emerald, Research4life and Springer Link of documents in English. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 29 sections were specified with the relevant information and the methodological rigor of the topic. The most relevant results point to the use of gamification, Mooc and feedback as formative evaluation strategies in virtual educational platforms. It is concluded that formative assessment models on virtual platforms have proven potential that supports the teaching and learning process, offering greater flexibility and accessibility with a range of possibilities for classroom assessment.
